Northern Vein Centre
Manitoba’s Premier Vein Treatment Facility
We can help with Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI)
Spider Veins
Spider veins are damaged blood vessels just beneath your skin’s surface. They look red, blue or purple. Their appearance resembles spider webs or tree branches.
Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are swollen veins just under the skin in your legs, feet or ankles. Blood backs up because of weak vein walls, making blue and purple bulges.
Venous Ulcers
Also known as venous stasis ulcer, is a wound that takes longer than usual to heal. It’s due to vein and blood flow issues and often occurs on your legs near your ankle.
Get Informed Before Treatment
When seeking treatment for leg-related issues—especially those involving vein disease—it is critical to ensure your doctor has the proper training and expertise. Improper or inadequate treatment can lead to complications, misdiagnosis, and unsatisfactory results.
Not all doctors are trained to treat vein conditions of the legs. Be sure to ask about your provider’s qualifications and experience in this specialized area.
Dr. Lachman has extensive training in vein disease and has successfully treated a wide range of venous conditions over the years utilizing sclerotherapy, EVLT laser, Clarivein, Mini-phlebectomies, and Venaseal.
He belongs to a small group of physicians in Canada that have obtained a Fellowship with the Canadian Society of Phlebology, a recognized authority in the field of vein care in Canada.
Trust your legs to a qualified expert. Your health and comfort matter.

What is Chronic Venous Insufficiency?
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition that affects 25-30% of the world’s population where the veins in your legs become diseased and do not allow blood to flow back to your heart properly. This is often due to weakened or damaged tiny valves in the veins. When these valves fail, blood can pool in the legs, causing swelling, pain, and varicose veins, spider veins and bleeding ulcers.
CVI can significantly impact your quality of life if left untreated.
Symptoms and Causes
- Spider or Varicose veins
- Swelling, fatigue of the legs or ankles
- Pain or a heavy feeling in the legs
- Restless legs
- Skin changes or ulcers on the legs
Who is at Risk?
Anyone can develop CVI, but certain factors increase the risk, including:
- Family history of vein problems
- Being overweight
- Leading a sedentary lifestyle
- Jobs requiring prolonged standing and/or sitting
- Pregnancy
- Hormonal factors
- Age and genetics
Treatment Options
At Northern Vein Centre, we offer a comprehensive range of treatments tailored to your specific needs.
Our goal is to offer the most suitable treatment appropriate to your needs. Our goal is to relieve symptoms, improve vein function, and enhance your overall health.
Before any treatment can be recommended a detailed ultrasound vein mapping must be performed.
Minimally Invasive Procedures
With today’s availability of minimally invasive, highly effective treatments there is really no role for stripping or surgery in treating vein disease.
There are several minimally invasive, almost painless procedures such as:
Ultrasound guided Foam and Liquid Sclerotherapy
Involves injecting a medication into the vein, causing it to collapse and fade/ disappear over time.
Clarivein
A mechanical/chemical treatment method using a tiny catheter in the vein to close it and make it disappear.
Mini-Phlebectomies
Using some freezing and performing tiny incisions in the skin through which we remove diseased veins.
Venaseal
The treatment involves closing diseased veins using a special adhesive. It can be used to treat the largest veins and bleeding venous ulcers. It is very versatile, powerful and probably the most effective vein treatment available in the world right now.
Dr. Matt Lachman is one of the most experienced physicians in Canada in performing the treatment. The Venaseal system is made by Medtronic, one of the world’s largest companies dedicated to cardiovascular health.
Coverage by Provincial Healthcare
